Dublin Airport welcomes today’s announcement by Lufthansa that it is to increase capacity on its Dublin-Munich route by more than 45% next summer.

The airline will increase its frequency from 13 to 19 flights per week when the summer schedule begins at the end of March 2019.

“Lufthansa is one of our longest-serving customers and I am delighted to see its route network go from strength to strength at Dublin Airport,” said Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison. “The extra daily flight represents a 45% increase in capacity between the two cities next summer which is testament to the popularity of Munich and the onward connections Lufthansa offers," he added.

"The airline has more than doubled services from Dublin to its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich in the last four years adding 26 additional frequencies to reach a total of 47 flights per week. This increase in services will provide further flexibility and choice for both business and leisure customers. We will continue to work closely with Lufthansa and its management team to ensure its ongoing success at Dublin Airport,” said Mr Harrison.

Announcing the additional frequency Andreas Koester, Senior Director Sales UK, Ireland & Iceland, Lufthansa Group, said: “Dublin is a key destination within the Lufthansa network and is of growing importance. We have increased frequency on both our Munich and Frankfurt services in 2018 due to continued growth in demand.

“This additional service further increases flexibility for business and leisure passengers, with early morning departures and late evening arrivals allowing for one-day business trips, as well as greater access to connecting flights to global destinations. We are committed to supporting the Irish business community and are pleased to support tourism in Ireland, with German tourists the third largest cohort after the British and Americans. We are also proud that our passengers continue to enjoy our high-quality product and on-board service.”

Almost 24.2 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport in the first nine months of the year, a 6% increase when compared to the same period last year. Dublin Airport has welcomed an extra 1.4 million passengers in the first nine months of the year.

Dublin Airport has flights to almost 190 destinations in 43 countries, operated by 56 airlines.
